PERFORMER
It was inevitable really that Steve would find himself a small niche in the company eventually. He has been involved with the work of the company for some time. Seriously, Steve is enormously excited to be working with this Cornish theatre company being himself “Kernow born and bred”. Steve was switched onto drama whilst still a schoolboy at Brannel School; developing his passion for the art when a student at St Austell VI Form College and going on to complete a B.Ed. (Hons) in Drama & Education at Bretton Hall (Leeds University) in West Yorkshire (where he used to babysit for fellow student Kay Mellor).
After a short spell working as part of Kinetic Theatre Company (a T.I.E. company) & working as a film extra & voice-over artist (don’t mention Crown paints!!) Steve returned home to Cornwall penniless and with strangely coloured hair; his mum suggested trying to get a job as a supply teacher … and a haircut! Steve took mum’s advice on both accounts and his career in teaching took off.
Returning as Head of Drama to St Austell Sixth VI Form, Steve worked there six years before moving to London to work at the Cockpit Theatre as part of the City of Westminster College; London brought Steve not only experience of the “big smoke” but a wife! After 14 gloriously happy years he returned to Cornwall with Jill (the wife!) and has been working at Cornwall College St Austell for the past seven years where he met Chris & Karen …. and the best is yet to come!
